In the Middle of Things: Prominent Downtown Location, Easily Accessible

The Central Offices building complex will be created in a prominent inner-city location directly next to Magdeburg’s central railway station. The surrounding built-up areas are dominated by office, retail and service types of use. Located in the immediate vicinity are the City-Carré shopping centre with annexed office buildings, a newspaper publisher, hotels and several government agencies of the State of Saxony-Anhalt.

Art, Culture, Relaxation and Entertainment near the Central Offices

The area surrounding the Central Offices complex has a rich historical and cultural background: The building next door is the thirteen-story Faber high-rise, built for the eponymous newspaper publisher in 1930 and listed as heritage site since 2008. The famous cathedral of Magdeburg with its distinct two steeples is a walk of 11 minutes away. On your way there, you will pass Hundertwasser’s Green Citadel, an imaginatively designed complex that combines a baroque façade with modern architecture.

Once at the Cathedral, you should consider a quick tour of the Ottonianum museum next door, which will take you time-travelling through the Middle Ages. Its exhibits date back to the times of Emperor Otto and let you experience history first-hand. A few steps further through Fürstenwallpark, which includes a beer garden, will take you to the Elbtreppen riverbank stairs overlooking the River Elbe, a great picnic spot with a panoramic view.

On your way back, you will pass by the Cultural History Museum, which places the city’s and the region’s history in the greater European context while also hosting exhibitions on special art and cultural history themes.

Across the river, in the middle of Elbauenpark, rises “the world’s smartest tower” or Jahrtausendturm, which presents 6,000 years of technological and science history on five levels inside while offering a magnificent panoramic view from the top of the 60-metre tall wooden structure. The surrounding parklands of 93 hectares complement this tower with cultural events, attractions and lush greenery. And it is by no means the only park and green recreational area in the vicinity.
